The New Normal - Business Continuity in a Post 9/11 World
   Don Pearson
   Publisher
   Government Technology
The promise of business continuity is the uninterrupted
provision of  operations and vital public services.  “Near
misses” cause organizations to dust off their business
continuity plans, but the urgency of the moment rarely
translates into the sustained effort needed to create an
environment of continual preparation.  Homeland security is
the most recent catalyst, focused primarily on the confluence
of public safety, health, transportation and critical
infrastructure.  Pearson presents the necessary components
of business continuity and highlights specific jurisdictions
   and best practices..

Preventing Telephone Fraud
   Ray Thomas
   Associate Manager, Customer Education
   AT&T Network Security
It is estimated that last year, in excess of $5 billion was lost
due to fraudulent telephone calls, according to
telecommunications industry sources. The actual cost is
difficult to pin down, since fraud in its many forms is not easy
to quantify. To protect yourself, you need to know how the
hackers and “frauders” operate - how they can invade your
communications systems and steal thousands of dollars from
you. Only then can you take effective action to keep the
thieves from making you their next victim.
