Dan is the public safety liaison to enterprise ITS Operations for migrating all public safety agencies to O365 (hosted enterprise email platform) and uniteNY (premise-based statewide enterprise VoIP solution). He is also tasked with transitioning the NY-Alert program to ITS from the Divison of Homeland Security & Emergency Services and interfacing NY-Alert with FEMA's IPAWS system. Prior to moving to Public Safety, Dan was the IT liaison to the Office of General Services "Restacking" initiative with responsibility for coordinating and facilitating the consolidation/relocation of telecommunications and network services, server farms and other systems as OGS relocated dozens of state agencies and thousands of employees into state office buildings and less expensive anchor leases. From July 1998 through January 2012, he served as the Director of Telecommunications for the State of New York with responsibility for enterprise telecommunications and networking services.
Dan has been employed by New York State as a telecommunications professional since 1981. He has served in various capacities over the past 33 years and was promoted to director in 1998. He is a former president of the National Association of State Technology Directors (NASTD) and is also a member of the Capital Area Technology Association (CATA).
He is a graduate of the University at Albany, State University of New York with a B.S. in Business Administration and also earned an A.A.S. degree in Telecommunications Management from Hudson Valley Community College. Dan served four years in the US Navy as a communications electrician aboard the USS Nitro (AE-23). Dan and his wife, Cynthia L. Itzo, reside in Colonie, New York.
